Our Story
Rooted in a City
Built on Wood Carving
Saharanpur has carried the title of India's wood-carving capital for generations — a city where entire neighborhoods have practiced hand-chiseled woodwork since the 19th century, exporting furniture across the world. Wood Ex Interior, registered as Wood Ex Interior & Co., is a workshop built inside that same tradition.
We don't outsource our carving or run it through a CNC machine. Every headboard, every sofa frame, every dining table leg is chiselled by hand by karigars who learned the craft the way Saharanpur has always taught it — from a senior craftsman standing beside them. What comes out of our workshop is furniture with the same soul as the carved havelis this city is known for, just built for a modern home.
What started as a small family workshop has grown, order by order and referral by referral, into a name homeowners, interior designers, and hoteliers across North India now call directly when they want something built properly. We've never chased volume over quality — we'd rather turn away a rushed order than send out a piece we wouldn't put in our own home.
Why It Matters
Why Saharanpur-Made
Actually Means Something
Not every "hand-carved" claim online is true. Here's what genuinely sets furniture made in our Saharanpur workshop apart.
Generations of Skill
Our karigars come from families that have carved wood in Saharanpur for generations. This is inherited skill, not a weekend course.
Direct From Our Workshop
No showroom markup, no dealer commission. You deal directly with the workshop that builds your furniture.
A Small, Accountable Team
We're not a factory that loses track of your order. A small team means someone who actually carved your piece can answer for it.
What We Stand For
The Values Behind
Every Piece
These aren't marketing lines — they're the same standards our karigars are trained on from day one.
Our Timber Philosophy
Why We're Picky
About Wood
Most of the furniture that warps, cracks, or comes apart within a couple of years wasn't badly designed — it was built from timber that was never properly seasoned. That's the corner we refuse to cut. Every plank of Teak (Sagwan), Sheesham, Oak, or Walnut that enters our Saharanpur workshop is kiln-dried until its moisture content is low enough to survive North Indian summers and monsoons without shifting.
Sheesham, in particular, is a wood our region knows intimately — it's dense, holds fine carving detail better than almost anything else, and darkens beautifully with age. Teak is our go-to when a client wants something termite-resistant with a warm, honey-toned grain. We don't believe in a single "best" wood; we believe in matching the right timber to how a piece will actually be used in your home.
This is also why we insist on hand-carving over machine routing for anything with detail. A CNC bit cuts a clean, repeatable groove — but it cuts every piece exactly the same, and it can't adjust for the grain of the specific plank in front of it the way a karigar's hand can. That adaptability is the difference between furniture that looks carved and furniture that actually is.
